Hazel Toney

Toney, Hazel Doreen Toney, age 91, of Gull Lake, SK passed away December 29, 2017 at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre. The memorial Service was held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 20 from Knox United Church with Carola Anderson officiating. Music was provided by Sharon Dahl and Nora Rudolph. The Ushers were Rob Toney and Chuck Toney. Hazel is survived by her husband Dayton, her children Debbie Benjamin and Cindy Toney and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Violet and Fred Becker, brothers and sister; Alex Becker, Bill Becker, Kenneth Becker, Kathleen, Mae, and Violet. Hazel was born on November 15, 1926 in Gull Lake, SK. She attended school at Riverview School and Gull Lake Country School. Hazel married Dayton Toney on June 15, 1946 in Swift Current. In her early years, she worked for Hemsworth Clothing Store, Drug Store and McLeod's Store before taking on the full time job of wife and mother. Hazel was a member of Willing Aiders, chartered member of the Eastern Star for nearly 30 years and the Rebeccas Lodge for thirteen years, sang in the church choir at Knox United Church, taught Sunday School, a charter member of the Legion Ladies Auxilliary, taught and helped with Mission Band and was a member of the Bridge and Whist Club. She and Dayton also enjoyed square dancing traveling to England, Alaskan Cruises, Mexico and many other U.S. destination. Hazel also enjoyed crafts, sewing and making clothes for her family. Hazel was also very knowledgeable about the history and goings in and around Gull Lake by the clipping she had saved from the Gull Lake Advance in a well-kept scrapbook. Hazel's true foundation in life was her faith, reading her daily devotions and bible and her family. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to Autumn House. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
