Robert "Bob" Furey Obituary

Robert ‘Bob’ Furey passed away on March 28, 2024, at Gull Lake Special Care Center after a long battle with COPD and ongoing heart conditions. Bob was born January 9th, 1952, on a ferry between Bell Island and St. Johns Newfoundland to Ellen (Nelly) Furey. Bob grew up in Bell Island for the first few years of his life, before living in Mount Cashel Orphanage. When he left the orphanage as a young man, and had his first son, Robert (Bobby) Furey. As a young adult, Bob started his journey across Canada; living in Toronto for some time before hitchhiking to British Columbia, and eventually on the way back east, stopped in Elrose, Saskatchewan where he met his lifelong friend, Tom Matthews. Bob met Donna Krause in 1978, and after living in numerous communities in Saskatchewan, they eventually settled in Swift Current. They would go on to have three children, Kimberly, Rebecca (Becky), and Robert Jr. Bob was a proud painter for all his life. Whenever he passed a building that he had painted he was sure to point it out to his family or take a photo to send back home to Newfoundland. During Bobs many visits to the Swift Current Hospital he eagerly told all the nurses and doctors that he had painted every door frame in the hospital. Bob was proud of the work he did. Bob always had time for a coffee a chat, and witty, sometimes mildly inappropriate remarks. Although Bob had his struggles and own demons, he loved his family very much, even if it was in his own way sometimes. He deeply missed his daughter, Becky, who had died tragically in 1990, but we know they are together once again. Bob is predeceased by his daughter Becky Furey, nephew Syl Kitchen, and Mother Nelly Kitchen (Furey). Bob is survived by Sister Lillian (Sylvester) Kitchen, niece Jenny (Dean) Singlton, brother George (Gale) Kitchen. Children, Bobby Furey, Kimberly Furey, Robert Jr Furey. Grandchildren Cassandra Furey-Cameron and Keegan Quebec.

Rest in peace, we love you and miss you very much.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Gull Lake Special Care Center for the coffee chats they had in their short time with Bob.
