Kathy McGowan

Kathy Hope (Cobler) McGowan passed away on October 27, 2018. She will be survived and sadly missed by her loving daughter, Desi Rae Fox (Daniel); Mother, Betty Cobler; partner, Ross Whitney; sisters, Cindy Barager (Russell) and Bonnie Donaldson (Robbie); brother, Rodger Cobler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathy was predeceased by her father, Myron Cobler; former husband, James McGowan and nephew, Alex Rodger Cobler-Busse. Kathy was born September 24, 1964 in Swift Current SK to Myron and Betty Cobler. She grew up on the family farm near Stewart Valley and attended elementary school in Stewart Valley, one year at O.M. Irwin, and high school at Swift Current Comprehensive, graduating in 1982. Kathy attended University of Regina from 1982 until 1986. In May 1986, Kathy wed James David McGowan at First United Church in Pennant. On January 21, 1993 they were blessed with Desi Rae Elizabeth. In 2005, Jim and Kathy parted ways, but remained friends. Kathy was a hard working woman who mostly worked in a variety of restaurants in Swift Current as prep and line cook. She was a member of AA; involved with Salvation Army women's groups, as well as assisting with prep, cooking, and clean up of their weekly meals. Her favourite pastimes were reading, writing, coloring and movies. She spoke of her favourite memories: a trip to Vancouver for Expo 86 with her aunt and cousins, and her friendships from university days. One of Desi's best memories of her Mom were the years she worked in the kitchen at the Imperial 400 and the two of them would go swimming in the pool and soak in the hot tub. Despite her many struggles, Kathy was always a soft spoken, compassionate person who willingly helped others in need. Known for her laughter and sense of humour, Kathy faced life trying to see the best in people and situations. The Memorial Service was held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Major Don Grad and Major Elizabeth Grad officiating. The Interment Service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Throughout her life, Kathy loved both cats and dogs, so the family is asking in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Swift Current S.P.C.A. Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
