Reuben Martens

Reuben Melvin Martens went to be with the Lord on May 8th, 2017, at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alviena and his daughters, Twila (Garth) and Holly (Scott) as well as his son Kimbal (Tonia) and his brother Tony. He also left many others to mourn his passing, including 7 grandchildren (Curtis, Tiffany, Dustin, Bria, Tyler, Jessa and Tanner) 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Otto, Fred, Sam and Roy.
A private 'Celebration of Life' graveside service was held on May 15th at Main Centre.
Reuben was best known for his sense of humour, his love of sports and his dedication to the Lord.
He married Alviena in 1952 and spent his time farming, raising his family, gardening, driving a school bus, and pitching for ball teams. Later he took up curling as well as bowling. He loved a game of chess or crokinole and his grandkids were often challenged to a competitive game.

He was very involved in the church in Main Centre, serving as an usher or deacon. He cared a lot about others and was quick to make amends if he inadvertently upset anyone.
He is to be remembered for instilling the love of God into his family through devotions and the example he set by his daily life. He was frequently seen reading his Bible and writing encouraging notes and cards to others.
