Joy Marjorie Handwork

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joy Handwork, nee Peacock, of Cabri, SK, on April 20, 2017 at the Cypress Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Joy had just celebrated her 70th birthday on March 14, 2017. She was proud to have been born, raised, married, raised a family and to have lived in Cabri her entire life.  She enjoyed volunteering with the Cabri Cemetery Committee  and recently signed up to help with the new history book. Prior to having children, Joy enjoyed oratory, horses, band, and get-togethers with friends. After marrying Bryan Handwork in 1963, she took the name to heart and demonstrated a great love of crafts, scrapbooking, painting and sewing. Bryan and Joy built a beautiful life together and loved their farm. Joy especially loved renovating their home, having horses and spoiling the 'outside' cats.
After Bryan, her lifelong love, passed away one week short of fifty years of marriage, Joy made a choice to live her new life fully.  She moved a lovely new house into the town of Cabri and made it her home. She picked up the guitar and sang again - after a long hiatus - and did so whether it was in the comfort of her home, on her deck, Cabri Care Centre, dances, open mike, jam sessions, at the Cabri Park, family reunions and more. She reconnected with past friends and enjoyed making many new friends. Joy also worked two jobs - and chose to do so right until the day she became ill. She embraced and tackled every decision and challenge head-on. She took great pride in her work with the Cabri Housing Authority and especially enjoyed working with each tenant on their home. She loved working at the Cabri Library over the past 32 years. Her work ethic, dedication, heart, pride and passion shone through with her book suggestions, friendliness with both young and old patrons, the upgraded look and ambiance of the library and its circulation. She revelled in working to make each and every child feel special and important through the Summer Reading Program and thematic touches such as personalized picture posters and Lego contests. Her sons - Lonny (Sherri) and Corey, and her daughters - Marni (Nola) and her feline companion, Dexter, will miss their mom immensely.  Other family members who mourn are her sister Lorna, nieces Linda and Laurie, nephew Lawrence (Karen), mother-in-law Agatha, sister-in-law Elaine and numerous cousins and extended family. Joy is predeceased by her husband Bryan, her parents Harv and Marj Peacock, brother Murray, nephews Lionel and Leigh, father-in-law Francis and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. We invite friends and community members to celebrate Joy's life on April 29 starting at 2 pm in the Cabri Library area. Family interment at a later date. The family would be honored for the Cabri Library to receive donations in loving memory of Joy.  To make this possible, be sure to write all of the following:  'Town of Cabri - Cabri Library - in memory of Joy Handwork' on the memo line of your cheque or on a note with a cash donation.  A charitable receipt will be issued. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
